US Marines attacking one of the 4 gates to the Citadel, the large, castle like ancient capitol of Vietnam in the city of Hue during the Tet battle
The battle for the Dong Ba gate into the citadel in the 3 week fight for Hue during the NVA attack in January, 1969 during the TET New Years holiday
The fight was vicious and deadly for both sides, with high casualtie on both sides. The NVA lost ten thousand men and women, and the Marines several hundred.
Much of the Citadel was destroyed or damaged during the battle, with many priceless pieces of architecture lost forever.
